Executive Board Position Elections

The OWCA hosts yearly elections for Officer positions on the Executive Board. You can learn about current OWCA Executive Board members here.

Anyone can apply for an Officer position, including not-yet OWCA members. We especially welcome and encourage people who identify as Queer/LGBTQ+, BI/POC, Indigenous, Disabled, Neurodivergent, or an otherwise marginalized identity to apply.

Those elected will need to be or become OWCA members to accept the position and serve their terms. Students and professionals who identify as people of color can become OWCA members at no charge.

Applications will be accepted for the following executive board positions:

  • Vice President
  • Assistant Treasurer
  • Assistant Secretary
  • Diversity & Social Justice Co-Chair
  • Accessibility Co-Chair
  • Virtual Events Co-Chair
  • Student Representative

Position Descriptions

Vice President

The Vice President will serve for 2 years (position non-renewable) and become President (2 year term) at the end of the previous President’s term. The Vice President will be a voting member of the Executive Board, with the following duties: Assist the President with fulfilling their duties; Learn the association’s structure, processes, and bylaws; Serve in place of the President in their absence; Succeed the President upon end of term or vacancy.

Assistant Treasurer

The Assistant Treasurer will serve for 1 year (position non-renewable) and become Treasurer (1 year term) at the end of the previous Treasurer’s term. The Assistant Treasurer will be a voting member of the Executive Board, with the following duties: Assist the Treasurer with fulfilling their duties; Serve on the Conference Committee and/or Virtual Events Committee as time allows; Serve in place of the Treasurer in their absence; Succeed the Treasurer upon end of term or vacancy.

Assistant Secretary

The Assistant Secretary will serve for 1 year (position non-renewable) and become Secretary (1 year term) at the end of the previous Secretary’s term. The Assistant Secretary will be a voting member of the Executive Board, with the following duties: Assist the Secretary with fulfilling their duties; Co-chair the Mentoring and Resources Committee; Coordinate with the Secretary on the tasks and deadlines of the Mentoring and Resources Committee; Serve in place of the Secretary in their absence; Succeed the Secretary upon end of term or vacancy.

Diversity & Social Justice Co-Chair

The Diversity and Social Justice Co-Chair will serve for 1 year (position non-renewable) and become Diversity and Social Justice Chair (1 year term) at the end of the previous Diversity and Social Justice Chair’s term. The Diversity and Social Justice Co-Chair will be a voting member of the Executive Board, with the following duties: Assist the Diversity and Social Justice Chair with fulfilling their duties; Co-chair the Diversity and Social Justice Committee; Coordinate with the Diversity and Social Justice Chair on the tasks and deadlines of the Diversity and Social Justice Committee; Serve in place of the Diversity and Social Justice Chair in their absence; Succeed the Diversity and Social Justice Chair upon end of term or vacancy.

Accessibility Co-Chair

The Accessibility Co-Chair will serve for 1 year (position non-renewable) and become Accessibility Chair (1 year term) at the end of the previous Accessibility Chair’s term. The Accessibility Co-Chair will be a voting member of the Executive Board, with the following duties: Assist the Accessibility Chair; Co-chair the Accessibility Committee; Coordinate with the Accessibility Chair on the tasks and deadlines of the Accessibility Committee; Serve in place of the Accessibility Chair in their absence; Succeed the Accessibility Chair upon end of term or vacancy

Virtual Events Co-Chair

The Virtual Events Co-Chair will serve for 1 year (position non-renewable) and become Virtual Events Chair (1 year term)at the end of the previous Virtual Event Chair’s term. The Virtual Events Co-Chair will be a voting member of the Executive Board, with the following duties: Assist the Virtual Events Chair; Co-chair the Virtual Events Committee; Coordinate with the Virtual Events Chair on the tasks and deadlines of the Virtual Events Committee; Serve in place of the Virtual Events Chair in their absence; Succeed the Virtual Events Chair upon end of term or vacancy.

Student Representative

Student Representatives will serve for 1 year (position renewable up to 1 time) and will be voting members of the Executive Board, with the following duties: Represent the interests of secondary school, undergraduate, and/or graduate students engaged in online writing center work; Assist other Officers with tasks, according to the needs of the organization and the representative’s interests and professional goals; Serve on at least 1 long-term or short-term committee.
